How to identify it

  • Huge: 85 cm to 1 m long, wingspan 1.8 to 2.3 m.
  • All dark, with fingered wingtips and a long, diamond (wedge) shaped tail.
  • Soars high on warm afternoons.

Where it lives

Soars the ridge and valley, using the updraft off the slope.

When to look

Most visible soaring on warm, still afternoons.

Protected. Seen over the land.
