How to identify it

  • Dense shrub 2 to 4 m, armed with sharp spines. It feels like a weed but it is native.
  • Small phyllodes (leaf-like flattened stems) 5 to 15 mm long.
  • Golden ball flowers in late winter to spring.

Where it lives

Confirmed on the rocky outcrops in the September survey. Good protective cover for wrens and lizards.

When to look

Golden flower balls late winter into spring.
