How to identify it

  • Tall, to 2 m, with feathery, thread-like leaves and a purplish stem base.
  • Flat heads of tiny yellow flowers. Strong aniseed smell.

Why it is a problem

Forms tall clumps along disturbed edges and tracks, shading out low ground cover and spreading by seed.

How to control it

Dig or chip out the crown and taproot of small plants. Cut and spot spray regrowth on larger clumps before they seed.
